Search crews begin collecting Katrina’s victims

NEW ORLEANS — With the waters receding, New Orleans faces a ghastly task of epic dimensions not seen by an American city in perhaps a century: collecting, identifying and then burying potentially thousands of corpses, many of them bloated, decayed or no doubt mangled beyond recognition.
Already, officials said they have 25,000 body bags on hand in Louisiana, and a temporary warehouse morgue is being readied to handle 5,000 dead.

 ELYRIA — The Elyria Health and Public Safety division is investigating the historic Marti Gras Pub for a mass break out of STD’s and crabs. Health and Public Safety investigators were notified of a growing number of STD cases from Elyria Memorial hospital over the last 6 months.
 Richard Scrotter of Elyria Health Division believes the outbreak started many years ago do to carpeted seating and the lack of undergarments not worn by many female patrons.
 Bruce Pasternak, 46 of North Ridgeville a long time patron of Marti Gras claims that he has experienced isolated incidents of large rashes and out of control itching.

5 children sickened after lunch at school

ELYRIA — Northwood Junior High School shut down its lunch services and city Health Department workers launched an investigation Thursday after five students fell ill shortly after the first lunch period.
The school had been serving chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables and rolls to students, several of whom who went to the school nurse’s office complaining of flu-like symptoms.

Foltin’s vacation draws fire

LORAIN — George W. has his Crawford dude ranch. Condoleezza Rice has her Manhattan digs. The late Ronald Reagan had his California horse farm.
And Lorain Mayor Craig Foltin has his New York state campground.
Foltin has held to an ironclad vacation agenda for the past 20 years: a one-week trip to Florida to attend the Cleveland Indians’ spring training.
More recently, however, Foltin left for a three-week camping trip in New York, a vacation spot he visits periodically.

COLUMBUS — Low-interest loans meant for Sept. 11 recovery helped an airport convenience store and fledgling video producers, but also a dentist and other business owners who said they didn’t know they were receiving terrorism-related aid.
